Bird Boxes project - Diary
pages 2009 Season - 11th April 2009
The Nuthatchs had not been seen or recorded for nearly two weeks. During todays survey Jane Stoneham observed the possible reason why. It appears they may have been forced out as a Blue Tit was seen bringing in nesting material into the box the Nuthatchs have used. Sadly it appears we will not see a Nuthatch nest in this box this year.
Although the weather has now turned warmer it appears that at the moment things are quieter than the previous seasons (07 & 08)
Currently the three boxes that showed interest by Robins have no nest being built in them. During her survey this week Pauline has observed Robins and Wrens near one of the new Robin boxes. There is a chance that one of the species may nest in the box.
One of the boxes appears to have two species trying to claim it. I observed a Blue Tit leaving the box this week, after many weeks of seeing nothing. However during Pauline's survey this week see observed a Great Tit entering and leaving the box. Which species will win and claim the box?
Based on the survey results so far this year I can now confim: 35 boxes are now in use. 26 by Blue Tits and 8 by Great Tits
The results from today's survey can be found under the "Survey Results" section.
